X-Jet soap ratio calculator

An X-Jet tip cannot tell soap from SH — it dilutes everything in the bucket by the same amount. Enter your flow rate, tip and bucket, and this works out the soap dose that lands on your target ratio at the wall, not in the bucket.

Your setup

SH plus any water already in there — everything except the soap.

What you want landing on the surface.

Adds the SH strength you'll actually be applying.

Beige and red are typically used when applying undiluted house wash or 12.5% sodium hypochlorite. Chart values are reproduced as printed by X-Jet Technologies.

Common questions

What ratio does each X-Jet tip give?

It depends on the tip colour and the machine’s flow. At about 15 L/min (4 GPM), black draws roughly 1:5, beige 1:10, red 1:16, white 1:30 and blue 1:37 (water to chemical). The table on this page lists every tip from 7.6 to 30.3 L/min.

What strength does neat 12.5% SH come out of an X-Jet at?

Divide 12.5% by the tip ratio plus one. At about 15 L/min, a beige tip delivers about 1.1% at the surface and a red tip about 0.7%. Beige and red are the tips typically used for applying undiluted house wash or 12.5% SH.

Why does my X-Jet mix come out weaker than expected?

The ratio changes with flow, so a machine with more or less flow than the chart column gives a different result. The X-Jet unit must also suit your machine’s flow rate, and long or narrow hose after the X-Jet reduces its draw.

How the numbers work

A tip reading 10:1 pulls one part bucket into ten parts water, so eleven parts leave the gun. Everything in the bucket lands at one eleventh strength — the soap along with the SH. To finish at 1:1000 on the wall you need the bucket eleven times stronger than that, and the soap you pour in is itself part of what gets drawn, so the bucket grows slightly as you dose it. This solves for that rather than approximating it.

Ratios are the printed X-Jet chart above, interpolated between columns for flow rates that don't land on one. They hold for any X-Jet model provided the unit is the right one for your machine's flow rate — a mismatched proportioner is the usual reason a mix comes out wrong.
